"Willie" Visits our School!
At my elementary school we are implementing a wonderful college awareness program that is tying everything we do in elementary school to getting into college. We are trying to get students to see the end result of school as being higher education, not just high school graduation.
Well, to make the point...each class has adopted a college. They wear their sports apparel and clothing. They shout their cheers and sing their songs. Many students try and follow their sports teams. We even had a superbowl of reading minutes between the different class teams. The Washington State Cougars and Yale Bulldogs won the tournament!! It has been a fun experience for all!
Well yesterday, the UVU Wolverine "Willie" came to visit one of our 3rd grade classes. This class had adopted UVU and the school alumni association decided to provide each student with a t-shirt, flag, pen, cookie, and much more! The kids had such a great time. It was so nice they personally brought the items to the students and talked about going to college. I was proud to be an alumnus of this great school! Here's to our college-bound Cougars!!
